PV NEIGHBOR: DR. FAWZIA REZA’S NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK TEACHES INCLUSION AND EMPATHY

Fawzia Reza was interviewed by the Palos Verdes Peninsula News about Mary and Her New Friends, where she discussed the significance of diversity and representation in children’s literature and stressed the importance of introducing young learners to different cultural backgrounds, and practices at an early age. As an early childhood educator, Fawzia recognized the lack of South Asian representation in children’s literature and wrote this book to fill this gap. She hopes to continue writing books that promote tolerance, empathy and cultural competence in a very polarized world.
